The Triangle gets it’s name from Research Triangle Park, a
collection of businesses and government agencies located near the
Raleigh-Durham International Airport and surrounded by the cities and towns
known as Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. RTP, as it’s called by locals, got it’s
start in 1959 with one company and now boasts over 170 companies and serves more
than 52,000 employees.
The surrounding towns and cities of Raleigh, Durham and
Chapel Hill are home to many colleges and universities including Duke
University, Meredith College, North Carolina Central and North Carolina State
Universities as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Very
often people who come to this area for school stay in the area after
graduation, probably because of the wonderful weather, the job opportunities as well as the low unemployment rate and low property taxes. This area boasts the most
PHD’s per capita of any region in the United States.
There are dozens of hospitals in the area offering the best
care available anywhere.
There is always something to do here, whether it’s
attending college sports games (basketball is very big here!) or the professional teams of the Carolina
Hurricanes hockey team, winners of a Stanley Cup or the Durham Bulls AAA
Affiliate baseball team of the Tampa Bay Rays. There’s plenty of outdoor
activities with lakes for swimming, boating and camping and many greenway
trails for walking and biking. People moving to our area often comment about how "green" the area is with all the trees and beautiful flowers so if all you want to do is lie in a hammock and take in the beautiful Carolina blue sky you'll have plenty of shade to do so!
Shopping is convenient all over the Triangle
area with many enclosed malls and major shopping centers within minutes and
many Farmer’s Markets for fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
There’s
easy access to both the beach and the mountains, with both being within an easy
three hour drive from the Triangle area. Whether you’re looking for concerts,
museums, fine arts or Broadway plays, you’ll always find something to do in
this beautiful place we call home.
