Thankfully there is not much to do in the way of home maintenance this month-all the more time to enjoy Thanksgiving!
Interior: Change furnace filters. If you don't have automatic vents or haven't yet closed them, now is the time to close crawl space vents. Check the settings on water heaters and adjust any thermostats located throughout your home. There is a higher risk of carbon monoxide poisoning in the winter. Plug-in carbon monoxide detectors are available at most hardware stores and should be placed close to the floor since carbon monoxide is heavier than air.
Exterior: Clean gutters and downspouts and be sure to clean leaves off valleys in the roof. Check porch railings and supports before snow and ice happens to be sure they're safe. Check and clean all exterior lights fixtures now that the days are getting shorter to be sure there is adequate light for those arriving home after dark. Clean and store your garden tools. Apply mulch for the winter to flower beds and shrub and garden areas.
