Helping Children Cope with a Move
Over the years of being a Real Estate Broker many
of my buyers have made suggestions that have helped their children handle a
move. From personal experience, I’ve also added a few of my own.
Before you leave your old neighborhood, assure your
children that you will not forget their friends. Children can send a card or
text their new address and phone numbers. Making a scrapbook that includes
their old neighborhood and home can be fun; include a few selfies with their friends.
If you have the opportunity, show the children their new
home and their new room prior to moving.
When you start packing up your old home, it may be
a good idea to give your children their own boxes to pack special things. Letting
them decorate the boxes can be fun also.
Once you are settled in your new home, take your children around
to visit their new school, playground, church, etc. Encourage them to take part in groups, sports,
and activities like the ones they used to participate in.
Remember, even if you only lived in a home for a few years,
to a young child it might be their entire lifetime.
Please let me know if you have any additional suggestions
that you would add to the above. I would
really like to hear from y’all.

"Laura helped me find and close on a rental property in Chapel Hill. I was impressed with her knowledge of the market and her attention to detail. Most impressive was her high level of service and follow through. And she was on time for all appointments, which was important to me as I had to travel from 2.5 hours away each time I went to Chapel Hill."
